Chaos at Howe Community Park Wounds 4 People Shot in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Officials in Sacramento County are working a gunfire incident that broke out on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment officers were clearing an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.

Background

Law enforcement first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at approximately half past six in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, additional information came in concerning a possible fight occurring within the park grounds.

Air support scanned the area from the air but reported no active disturbance. Even so, it became clear that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without permission.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling attendees to go home. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Responding personnel at once began finding those who had been shot.

Those Who Were Hit

Altogether, four gunshot victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — including a female and three males all reportedly in their twenties — were rushed to area medical facilities. Hospital staff confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded and helped triage the four victims prior to hospital transport.

What Investigators Found

The center of the incident was believed to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators Sacramento park shooting 2026 found additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the metal fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. This ballistic evidence showed that a shooter had been aiming south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The store itself was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Detainees in Solano County

Information obtained via scanner audio indicated that a suspect Kia had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for questioning. Video that was reviewed showed that two shooters had been involved.
